MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS PANELS for young adults
Heads Up for Harry hosts interactive and informative mental health panels at high schools and community organizations across Georgia. Our panels bring students and young professionals of Heads Up for Harry together to connect and share experiences, insights, and thoughts around mental health and wellness.
These panels also help raise awareness in young adults about the importance of talking about mental health - we aim to engage students to discuss mental wellness, share strategies to recognize and address mental illness, and employ positive coping mechanisms.
Our overall goal is to reduce stigma surrounding mental health and wellness, and provide mental health resources for young people and their families.
our panelists
Our panelists discuss topics such as the indicators of mental illness, when to seek help, and how to develop effective coping strategies for positive maintenance.
Members of the Heads Up for Harry team further facilitate conversation with the students by sharing their own experiences with mental health, and discussing the things that they wish they knew about mental health and wellness when they were younger.
mental health awareness panels for parents
Similar to our panels for young adults, Heads Up for Harry offers evening panels for parents. These panels engage parents in how to support their young adults’ mental wellness. A parent and NAMI Family to Family facilitator shares her personal experiences supporting her son with mental illness.
WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING ABOUT THE PANELS…
“The HU4H panelists helped me realize that it’s okay to talk to other’s about how I’m feeling…that’s it’s okay to not be okay. Talking can help.” Student
“I could see myself in the panelists’ stories…that could be me. I am happy to have some tools to use if I find myself in a similar situation.” Student
“So often teens who are suffering don’t feel like they can talk to anyone. They feel isolated and stuck. Having these young people share their stories shows that it’s okay to reach out, that mental health can be a part of a normal conversation.” Mental Health professional
“The question and answer period was powerful and engaging. These young people used authentic language and explored real scenarios to provide inspiration to the kids. Kids want to be helpful, they just don’t always know what to say or do.” Mental Health professional
“Young people talking to young people about mental health makes a difficult topic relatable. The panelists have a genuine love and passion for the topic and it shows.” Consultant
